Grayhawk's Going Green Initiative

Over the past year, Grayhawk Golf Club has begun a green transformation and we wanted to share with you some behind the scenes insights into what’s going on here to green up the place.  Grayhawk Golf Club is Going Green!   What does that mean exactly?  Does it mean that Grayhawk has implemented a new clean energy retrofit strategy?  Yes, but what is that you ask?  It’s easy…Going Green to us simply means focusing on what we can do better as a business to reduce our overall Carbon Dioxide Emissions and ultimately save trees.  We are investing in the future by starting at our own doorstep.

Here are some insights into our Clean Energy Retrofit (sounds fancy don’t it!)

Lighting Initiative:  Delamp and Relamp with fewer watts and better light
*Replaced incandescents and hot halogens with CFL’s and LED’s.
*Replaced T12 linear fluorescents with HPT8 fluorescents.
*Over 800 lamps and fixtures were replaced removing >55,000 watts!

HVAC Initiative:  Replace aging and inefficient A/C units
*Twenty one (21) new units installed are >40% more efficient and use R410A refrigerant which is a non-ozone depleating Freon.

Building Envelope Initiative: Control the building environment more efficiently
*New weather stripping and sealing on all doors and windows.
*Installed programmable thermostats to control building temperature more efficiently.

Solar Initiative:  Generate your own electricity from the sun
*A 28kW plant was installed on the roof of the Maintenance Building and was commissioned by APS in February 2010.
*This generating facility produces on average >70% of the electricity needed by the host building.
*As proven, a similar 30kW facility is envisioned for the Clubhouse Rotunda in 2010.

TOTAL PROJECTED ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS IN THE FIRST YEAR INCLUDE…REDUCED CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS BY 113 TONS AND 2,925 TREES SAVED!
